Paracrine

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008434

A type of cell signaling where a cell produces a signaling molecule that acts on nearby target cells. The signaling molecules, or paracrine factors, diffuse through the extracellular fluid to reach their targets without entering the bloodstream. This localized communication mechanism is common in tissue development and repair.
