Pathway
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008545
A series of linked chemical reactions, usually catalysed by enzymes, that converts a starting biological compound into a final product through a chain of intermediates, each step feeding the next. Pathways are catabolic when they break molecules down and anabolic when they build them up. Glycolysis, for example, turns one glucose molecule into two pyruvate molecules in ten enzymatic steps.
