Photodesorption quantum yield
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008843
The ratio of the number of molecules desorbed from a surface to the number of photons absorbed by the adsorbate-adsorbent system. This quantity measures the efficiency of a light-induced desorption process, where adsorbed species are released from a surface following electronic excitation by incident photons. The photodesorption quantum yield is a dimensionless number and its value is highly dependent on the wavelength of the incident radiation, the surface temperature, and the specific chemical nature of both the adsorbent and the adsorbate.
