Photographic plate recording

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008873

A method of detecting and recording ions in mass spectrometry by exposing a photographic emulsion to the ion beam. The ions cause chemical changes in the emulsion, which, after development, produce darkened lines or spots corresponding to their mass-to-charge ratios. This technique provides a permanent, integrated record of the mass spectrum.
