Polybetaine
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009113
A polymer containing zwitterionic groups in its repeating units, where each unit carries both a cationic and an anionic functional group. This structure results in an overall neutral charge on the monomer unit, distinguishing them from polyampholytes where charges are on different units. The term is derived from betaine, a simple zwitterion, but the charges in the polymer are not restricted to carboxylate and quaternary ammonium groups.
