Zwitterionic polymerisation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012823
A chain polymerization in which the growing macromolecule carries two ionic chain carriers of opposite charge, one cationic and one anionic, at one or both ends. It starts when a neutral nucleophile, such as an N-heterocyclic carbene added to a lactone, attacks the monomer, or when a nucleophilic and an electrophilic monomer react with each other, so no external ionic initiator is needed.
