Polyhydantoin
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009146
A polymer with hydantoin units, five-membered imidazolidine-2,4-dione rings, built into its main chain. A common route reacts diisocyanates with monomers carrying alpha-amino ester or alpha-amino nitrile groups, then closes the ring. Because each ring has a nitrogen flanked by two carbonyl groups, polyhydantoins are classed as a subclass of polyimides.
