Prostate

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013442

A gland in the male reproductive system that secretes prostatic fluid, a component of semen. This fluid contains enzymes, citric acid, and prostate-specific antigen (PSA), which contribute to sperm motility and liquefaction of the ejaculate. The prostate surrounds the urethra at the base of the bladder and its size can increase with age, leading to conditions like benign prostatic hyperplasia.
