Puffing
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009662
An undesirable expansion and distortion phenomenon that occurs in certain carbon materials, particularly petroleum coke, during high-temperature heat treatment. This expansion is caused by the rapid evolution of gases, such as sulfur-containing compounds, trapped within the carbon structure. It can lead to cracking and degradation of the material's mechanical integrity.
