Recombination of photocarriers

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010022

The process by which photogenerated electron-hole pairs in a semiconductor material return to their equilibrium state, either radiatively (emitting light) or non-radiatively (releasing heat). This phenomenon competes with charge separation and transport, influencing the efficiency of photocatalytic processes and photovoltaic devices. The rate of recombination depends on the material properties and the presence of defects.
