Surface recombination
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011660
The process where photogenerated electron-hole pairs in a semiconductor material recombine at the surface or interface, rather than migrating to participate in a chemical reaction. This phenomenon reduces the efficiency of photocatalytic and photovoltaic devices. The rate of surface recombination is influenced by surface defects and the presence of surface states.
