Rotated Fischer projection
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010414
A projection formula for polymer chains, made by turning a standard Fischer projection through 90 degrees so that the backbone runs horizontally. The turn is compensated by reversing the Fischer rule: horizontal bonds, which are the backbone bonds, point below the plane of the page and vertical bonds point above it, so the drawing shows the same configuration as the unrotated one. Without this reversal, a 90-degree turn would depict the enantiomeric arrangement.
