Projection formula
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009530
A flat drawing of a three-dimensional molecule that conveys its stereochemistry by convention rather than by showing real bond lengths or angles. It lets configurations be compared on paper, which is especially convenient for molecules with several stereocenters. Fischer projections, used for carbohydrates and amino acids, and Newman projections, used for conformations about one bond, are the standard types.
