Sensory effect level

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010750

A measure of the human sensory response to an airborne substance, expressed through three thresholds. The detection threshold is the lowest concentration noticed in half of the trials in which it is present, the recognition threshold is the lowest concentration whose odor or effect is correctly identified half the time, and the nuisance threshold is the concentration at which fewer than 5 percent of people are annoyed for no more than 2 percent of the time.
