Space charge

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011067

A net electrical charge within a volume of a material, arising from an imbalance of positive and negative charge carriers. This charge distribution creates an electric field that extends beyond the immediate vicinity of the individual charges. Space charge regions are prevalent at interfaces in semiconductors and electrolytes.
