Spemann organizer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011173
A cluster of cells located in the dorsal lip of the blastopore during the early amphibian gastrula stage of embryonic development. This region has the unique ability to induce the development of a secondary embryonic axis when transplanted into a host embryo. The organizer patterns the surrounding tissues, most notably inducing the formation of the central nervous system by secreting molecules that antagonize signals like bone morphogenetic protein-4 (BMP-4).
