Spin-state transition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011227
A change in the total spin angular momentum of a metal ion in a coordination complex, usually induced by temperature, pressure, or light. This involves a rearrangement of electrons between different d-orbitals, leading to a shift between high-spin and low-spin configurations. Such transitions are observed in certain transition metal complexes, particularly those of iron(II).
