Spin-statistical factor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011228
A numerical factor that accounts for the probability of forming a particular spin state from a pair of reacting species. It is derived from the statistical weights of the possible spin configurations of the encounter complex or transition state. For example, in a reaction between two doublet species, the spin-statistical factor for forming a singlet product is 1/4.
