Static pressure
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011331
The pressure a fluid exerts in all directions when at rest, or, for a moving fluid, the pressure that acts perpendicular to the direction of flow, as sensed by a probe that does not disturb the stream. Adding the dynamic pressure, ½ρv², which represents the kinetic energy of the flow per unit volume, gives the total pressure, so a Pitot-static tube obtains flow speed from the difference between total and static pressure.
