Sticky ends
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011414
Single-stranded nucleotide sequences at the ends of a double-stranded DNA molecule, created when a restriction enzyme cuts the two strands at offset positions. These overhangs are complementary to other ends produced by the same enzyme, which can anneal through base pairing. In contrast, blunt ends are formed when a restriction enzyme cuts both strands at the same base pair, leaving no overhang.
