Sulfonamides
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011561
Organic compounds containing a sulfonyl group, -SO2-, directly attached to a nitrogen atom, forming the R-SO2-NR'R'' functional group. These compounds are derivatives of sulfonic acids where the hydroxyl group is replaced by an amino group. Many sulfonamides exhibit biological activity and are used as pharmaceuticals, such as the sulfa drugs, which are antibacterial agents.
