Surface segregation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011664
The phenomenon where certain components of a multi-component material preferentially accumulate at the surface or interface compared to their bulk concentration. This redistribution is driven by a reduction in surface free energy. It can significantly alter the surface properties, such as catalytic activity or corrosion resistance.
