Photodiode
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007161
A semiconductor device that converts light into an electrical current. When photons strike the photodiode, they create electron-hole pairs, generating a photocurrent proportional to the light intensity. This device operates in either photovoltaic mode, where it generates voltage, or photoconductive mode, where it acts as a variable resistor.
