Chain reaction
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004243
A sequence of reactions where the product of one step acts as a reactant for the next, propagating the process. In atmospheric chemistry, this often involves free radicals that are consumed and regenerated, leading to rapid transformations of trace gases. An example is the catalytic destruction of stratospheric ozone by chlorine radicals.
