Coalescence
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000725
The process by which dispersed droplets or particles in an emulsion or suspension combine to form larger entities. This phenomenon can lead to phase separation in drilling fluids, such as the breaking of an oil-in-water emulsion. Surfactants and other emulsion stabilizers are added to drilling fluids to prevent or minimize coalescence.
