Coalescence

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002155

The process where two or more dispersed phase entities, such as droplets in an emulsion or bubbles in a foam, merge to form a single larger entity. This occurs when the interfacial film separating the entities ruptures, allowing their contents to combine. Coalescence leads to a reduction in the total interfacial area and is a key step in phase separation.
