Density current
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000998
A gravity-driven flow of fluid that moves through another fluid due to a difference in density. In geology, these currents often consist of sediment-laden water flowing downslope through clear water, forming turbidites. These flows are responsible for depositing large volumes of clastic sediment in deep marine environments, creating potential reservoir rocks.
