Gradiomanometer

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004346

A production logging instrument that measures the pressure difference between two vertically separated points in the wellbore to determine the average density of the fluid column. The tool consists of two precise pressure sensors housed a fixed distance apart, typically one to two feet. By dividing the measured pressure differential by the sensor spacing and the gravitational constant, the tool provides a continuous log of the downhole fluid density, which is used to identify fluid types and locate entry points.
