Gravimeter
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001734
An instrument used to measure minute variations in the Earth's gravitational field. It typically consists of a sensitive spring-mass system that detects changes in the force of gravity. Gravimeters are employed in gravity surveys to map subsurface density contrasts, which can indicate geological structures relevant to hydrocarbon exploration.
