Gravity-stable displacement

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001744

A fluid displacement process in a reservoir where the injected fluid is denser than the displaced fluid, or vice versa, leading to a stable front that minimizes fingering and maximizes sweep efficiency. This condition is achieved when a denser fluid displaces a lighter fluid downwards, or a lighter fluid displaces a denser fluid upwards. It is a desirable condition for enhanced oil recovery projects.
