Imbibition
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001943
The process where a wetting fluid spontaneously displaces a non-wetting fluid within a porous medium due to capillary forces. This phenomenon is driven by the surface tension and contact angle between the fluids and the rock. In reservoir engineering, imbibition is a key mechanism for oil recovery in water-wet reservoirs.
