Overbalance
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002655
A condition where the hydrostatic pressure exerted by the drilling fluid column in the wellbore is intentionally maintained at a level greater than the formation pore pressure. This pressure differential prevents formation fluids from flowing into the wellbore, maintaining well control. A typical overbalance pressure might be 100-300 psi above formation pressure.
