Describing a semiconductor material that has been doped with impurity atoms, such as phosphorus or arsenic in silicon, which contribute extra free electrons to the conduction band. These electrons become the majority charge carriers, increasing the material's electrical conductivity. The doping process creates an excess of negative charge carriers.
