180° pulse

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000005

A radiofrequency pulse in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy that inverts the net magnetization vector of nuclear spins relative to the static magnetic field. This pulse is used to refocus spins that have dephased due to magnetic field inhomogeneities or chemical shift differences. It is a key component in many advanced NMR pulse sequences, such as spin echo experiments.
