Autoinflammatory disease
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000986
A condition characterized by recurrent episodes of systemic inflammation, resulting from a dysfunction in the innate immune system without the involvement of autoantibodies or antigen-specific T-lymphocytes. These disorders are caused by genetic mutations in proteins that regulate inflammatory pathways, leading to unprovoked activation of immune cells like neutrophils and macrophages. Familial Mediterranean fever is a classic example of a monogenic autoinflammatory disease.
