Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002113
The temperature at which a liquid-crystalline material, upon heating, transitions from an ordered mesophase to a disordered, isotropic liquid phase. This transition is reversible, and on cooling, the material will reform the liquid-crystal phase at or below this temperature. The clearing point is a characteristic property of a thermotropic liquid crystal and is observed as a distinct change in optical properties, such as the disappearance of birefringence.
