Compton effect

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002345

The inelastic scattering of a photon by a charged particle, usually an electron, resulting in a decrease in the photon's energy and a change in its direction. The scattered photon has a longer wavelength than the incident photon, and the electron recoils. This phenomenon demonstrates the particle-like nature of electromagnetic radiation.
