An abbreviation for continuous wave, referring to electromagnetic radiation, such as light from a laser, that is emitted at a constant amplitude and frequency over an extended period. This contrasts with pulsed radiation, which is emitted in short bursts. Continuous wave lasers are used in applications requiring stable and sustained light output.
