Cyanotoxin
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013007
A toxin produced by cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae. These compounds are produced and contained within the cyanobacterial cell and are released into the surrounding water upon cell death and lysis. Cyanotoxins are classified based on their toxicological effects, including hepatotoxins like microcystins, neurotoxins like anatoxin-a, and dermatotoxins like lyngbyatoxin-a.
