Cyclooxygenase specific inhibitors
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002825
A class of pharmaceutical agents that selectively block the activity of specific isoforms of the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme, primarily COX-2. These inhibitors reduce inflammation, pain, and fever by preventing the synthesis of prostaglandins from arachidonic acid. Unlike non-selective COX inhibitors, they aim to minimize gastrointestinal side effects associated with COX-1 inhibition.
