Cyst

An abnormal, closed sac-like structure within a tissue or organ that is lined by epithelium and filled with a liquid or semisolid material. Cysts can form in almost any part of the body and may be developmental or acquired. In toxicology and pathology, the presence, size, and characteristics of cysts are noted as they can indicate a pathological process or a response to toxicant exposure.
