Dispersant
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003297
A chemical agent used to break up aggregates of particles or droplets into a fine suspension, preventing them from settling or coalescing. These substances reduce the interfacial tension between immiscible phases, allowing for a more uniform distribution. Dispersants are frequently employed in oil spill remediation to break down oil slicks into smaller droplets.
