Distribution isotherm
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003345
A curve or function giving the stationary-phase concentration of an analyte in terms of its mobile-phase concentration once equilibrium is reached at a fixed temperature. Depending on the retention mechanism it represents partitioning, adsorption, or a mixture of both, in every chromatographic mode, gas chromatography included. A straight-line isotherm yields symmetric Gaussian peaks, whereas a curved one produces tailing or fronting in nonlinear chromatography.
