Elastic peak
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003618
A peak in an electron spectrum produced by electrons that were scattered quasi-elastically from the sample, so that they appear at essentially the energy of the primary beam. It is recorded with an electron spectrometer when a solid is bombarded with electrons, as in Auger electron spectroscopy and reflection electron energy loss spectroscopy. The small energy loss from atomic recoil is typically below 1 eV.
