Flame photometry
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004470
An analytical technique used for the quantitative determination of certain metal ions, particularly alkali and alkaline earth metals, in a solution. A sample is introduced into a flame, causing the metal atoms to become excited and emit light at specific wavelengths as they return to their ground state. The intensity of the emitted light is proportional to the concentration of the metal in the sample.
