Floccule
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004487
A small, loosely held cluster of particles suspended in a liquid or settling out of it, formed when destabilised colloidal particles come together in flocculation. Floccules are bound by weak forces, so they break up easily under shear, and they settle faster than the single particles they contain. In water treatment, a coagulant such as alum is added to produce floccules that can be settled or filtered out.
