A type of glycosphingolipid characterized by a ceramide lipid anchor linked to an oligosaccharide chain containing two or more neutral monosaccharide units. These molecules are found in the outer leaflet of cell membranes and play roles in cell recognition and signaling. Globosides are particularly abundant in red blood cells and are involved in blood group antigen determination.
