Gold electrode
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004961
An electrode of gold in the form of foil, wire or a disc, easily shaped into many electrode geometries and applied in voltammetry, in biosensors and with thiol self-assembled monolayers. Its surface becomes covered with an oxide or a chemisorbed oxygen layer at positive potentials, and complexing anions such as chloride or cyanide dissolve the metal, so the usable potential range is limited.
