  "definition": "The interval separating a tolerance limit from the acceptance limit that is set against it, applied in conformity assessment to offset measurement uncertainty. When the acceptance limits sit inside the tolerance limits (guarded acceptance), a result in the band is not accepted, which cuts the chance of passing a non-conforming item; when they sit outside (guarded rejection), the band instead protects against rejecting a conforming one. The width of the band is scaled to the expanded measurement uncertainty.",
