Ideal chromatography
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005569
A hypothetical chromatographic process free of every band-broadening mechanism, whether diffusion or slow mass transfer, which implies an infinite plate number and zero plate height. A sample band then migrates without dispersion, so an injected zone elutes with its original width at its retention time. It is the limiting case of infinite column efficiency against which real, non-ideal chromatography is compared.
